Soups, snow and the zen of labelling

3 Recipes, 2 Cooking Tips and 1 Moment of Calm

Happy Friday everyone,

Keeping cozy (and the best way to top your soup!)

As the wind picks up and the snow is falling up here in north of the UK, I’m keeping cosy at home. (Well, I would be if our new heating system was working 😳 ...let’s not go there) I’m so happy to have a plentiful pantry when the weather turns like this. This week, in ‘the moments in between’, I’ve been taking little time-outs to organise my food cupboards. It might not sound it, but I honestly do find it very calming to get all my food organised. There has been lots of labelling and a grand food audit to check what’s good, and what’s been sitting in that pantry a little too long (looking at you mixed herbs!)

A good first pass is done, and that big pot of lentils is all ready to star in my next video - a simple soup recipe for that Instant Pot Mini. Cold weather just screams out for soup, doesn’t it?

Hopefully I’ll find some time to get that filmed and out to you over the weekend. In the meantime, here’s some other winter warmers to get you inspired this weekend ⤵️

3 Comforting Soup Recipes

🥣 Vegan Instant Pot White Bean Stew from Nisha at Rainbow Plant Life

Nisha is famous for her amamzing vegan recipes and has recipes in the New York Times now, but did you know she was one of the first creators on YouTube making beautiful Instant Pot dishes? Always good!

🥣 Broccoli and Stilton Soup by Nigella

You don’t even need a pressure cooker for this one - frozen broccoli makes this pantry friendly and super quick to cook. No pressure cooking required.

🥣 Italian Bread Soup by Flo Lum

Flo Lum was one of the very first cooks to inspire me to get into my Instant Pot for ‘real cooking’. Her videos are always fun and these are real recipes you can rely on. I hope you like this one!

2 Cooking Tips for Soup Lovers

🥦 I’m always trying to find ways to get some extra nutrients into my food. One of my favourites is sprouted broccoli seeds and they make a great soup topper, especially on those plain soups that need a little something to wake them up!

🌿 And here’s another storecupboard favourite soup topper - try a generous tablespoon of pesto on those Mediterranean flavour soups- goes great with minestrone!

1 Moment of Calm

“To feel safe and warm on a cold wet night, all you really need is soup.”
~ Laurie Colwin

Well that's it from me for this week. Have a good weekend all, keep warm and I hope you find something that brings a moment of calm in your weekend - even if it does involve a labelling machine!

warm wishes

Susan ☺️

The Weekly Eatly 3 Recipes, 2 Cooking Tips and 1 Moment of Calm Happy Friday everyone (and we won't mention the other word that goes with Friday this week anymore!) For those of you celebrating Thanksgiving yesterday, I hope your day went well, in whatever way that looked like for you - we don't have a tradition of thanksgiving in the UK but I do think it's good to pause a moment and think about what we're thankful for. So easy to forget the good stuff sometimes. I'm grateful for all of you...

November 2025: Black Friday Bulletin... from the Cooking and Calm Kitchen Hi everyone, Just a quick shopping bulletin as there are a lot of cooking bargains in the Amazon Prime sale today including quite a few Instant Pot Deals. I've even spotted the Instant Pot Mini on discount in the US - not in the UK yet but fingers crossed it might make an appearance here too 🤞 Most of you know, I'm not linked to Instant Pot or sponsored by them as I like to keep independent, but if you shop for anything...

The Weekly Eatly 3 Recipes, 2 Cooking Tips and 1 Moment of Calm Happy Friday everyone and, more importantly, happy Halloween! I tried so very hard today to make my new Instant Pot Mini look a little spooky but no matter what I do, this thing just keeps on looking super cute! There is just something about its jolly, stumpy form that makes me smile. I've never been a fan of small Instant Pots but I must admit I've been really enjoying testing this one. Also dressing it up! This new mini is...
